Katerin Carballares is an author, illustrator and visual artist based in Barcelona.

Through her expressive use of color and spontaneous lines, Katerin explores the intimate and ordinary instances of human experiences and emotions. Her interest for observation of reality allows her to develop an artistic work, while at the same time visually narrating a story with rich sensitivity.

Katerin studied in Barcelona, Spain, and abroad in the UK, where she specialized in illustration, comic, animation, printmaking and graphic design. She is also a writer, and currently she’s working on her debut graphic novel as a complete author.

In addition, she specializes in live-drawing or graphic recordings for professional events: private views, seminars, meetings, PR events, and clients or partners portraits. As an artist, she performs “live”, mastering portraits and scenes as an artistic record or souvenir of the event, making handmade drawings with watercolors, colored pencils or oil pastels.

Katerin has experience organizing Urban Sketching meetings, a live drawing modality that consists of capturing your personal vision of your immediate world and the places you travel to, for instance, in your sketchbook making reports of daily events as a visual diary. She was also an organizer of the monthly meetings Retrats del Primer Dijous in Barcelona, a monthly meeting between artists of all kind to draw mutually as a way to encourage the practice of painting portraits.

In between illustrating, she loves going to cafés, walking near the sea and occasionally working with clay, always with a notebook and a pen in hand, in case creativity also finds her outside home.
